We wanted to check in on you and give you an update on this year’s Shave for the Brave campaign amidst this incredibly challenging time. Following the guidance of our health experts we are suspending the 2020 Shave for the Brave campaign until May 18. The past week has been full of change for so many of us, but one thing that hasn’t changed at YACC is our community’s desire to connect and access YACC’s programs.
We know the Shave is an important milestone for many of you on a personal level, and it helps build a sense of community for your schools, offices, and teams. We are sad and will miss the high fives, fist bumps and hugs, the dancing, the smiling faces, and the tears of pride from mom and dad. This is a pause, not a cancellation, and we hope we can be rubbing elbows with you in our post-COVID-19 era at a Shave for the Brave when we all feel it’s safe to reconnect.
We also want you to know that while we’re hitting pause on Shave events, Young Adult Cancer Canada (YACC) is full steam ahead on the other side of our operations — supporting young adults living with, through, and beyond cancer. We have made necessary adjustments to our local and national programs for the mental and physical health of our YACCers, stakeholders, and staff, and we are ramping up our digital support options. Follow YACC on Facebook to stay up to date!
If you signed up for the March 14 Community Shaves
- We rescheduled our March 14 Community Shaves in St. John’s and Gander until May 30. Keep growing that hair, or talk to us about hosting a Solo Shave! Please connect with firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
If you are scheduled to hold a Solo Shave
- If you are in control of all of the elements of your Solo Shave (i.e. you have a razor or access to a hairstylist, etc.), there’s no reason why your event has to change! We will pop your yellow toque in the mail, and we encourage you to send us a few pictures so we can spread some social media joy.
If you signed up for another School/Office/or Group Shave
- At this time, the World Health Organization suggests avoiding all non-essential gatherings, so all upcoming group Shaves have been suspended. Your fundraising page will remain active; let email@example.com know if you would like to host a Solo Shave instead!
- Solo Shaves can be a lot of fun! If you have access to an electric razor at home, visit www.shaveforthebrave.ca to sign up for a Solo Shave! We will make sure you get your yellow Shave for the Brave toque in the mail, and we will share any photos you send us to amplify those feel-good social media vibes we’re all looking for these days.
On behalf of the 3,600 YACCers in our community, thank you. We have their back only because you have ours. We look forward to staying connected online and hope to see you all very soon.
Live life. Love life.
Geoff and the shave team.
