Head Hunter FAQ

What is a Head Hunter?

A Head Hunter (aka Shave organizer) is any motivated individual (teacher, student, employer, employee, etc.) who takes on the task of organizing a Shave for the Brave at their school, office, or in their community.

Anyone interested in being a Head Hunter can apply and then we’ll contact you to talk about the details (i.e. where, when, how big, etc.).

What does a Head Hunter do?

The Head Hunter is Young Adult Cancer Canada’s (YACC) main contact for a Shave. We work together to make your event becomes a reality and provide all the tools you’ll need, including an easy to follow step-by-step action plan, to ensure your Shave is a success.

Generally, a Head Hunter selects a venue, drums up participation, and collects registration forms and pledges. You would coordinate the details of the actual event as well, including getting any volunteer support you may need, as well as finding any necessary materials or equipment for setup.

Remember, we are here every step of the way to answer any questions or concerns you may have!

If I apply to be a Head Hunter, does that mean I’m automatically signed up to organize a Shave?

Don’t worry; filling out the form doesn’t mean you’re committed. We just want to hear from you, have a chat, and learn how best to move forward.

Can I have people help me in my role as Head Hunter?

Absolutely. You do not have to do all the work yourself! In fact, we encourage you to find a few volunteers to help you out.

Students should check with their schools and seek a teacher to be the supervisor. If you are an employee of a company, you may need to check with your boss to see if the event would be allowed.

Now, that is not to say that one person cannot do the job. It all depends on the individual and the details of their proposed Shave event.

Can people register for my Shave event online?

Yes. We’ll discuss this with you when you apply and following confirmation of the date, time, and location, we can list your Shave online for participants to register and collect pledges online.

Where does the money go?

All funds raised during the Shave for the Brave go directly toward supporting our programs for young adult cancer survivors such as Retreat Yourself, Retreat Yourself Adventure, the Survivor Conference, and Localife. Donations allow us to offer these programs at no cost to the young adults that truly need them.

For more information on Young Adult Cancer Canada and our finances, check out our Annual Report.

Where do I drop off the donations?

It’s best to drop off your pledges at our office during office hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30-5). Just give us a call first at 1-877-571-7325.

Obviously, if you’re not in St. John’s, we’ll coordinate another way to deliver the money. Call us and we’ll figure out the best option.
