The 2018 Shave for the Brave campaign kickoff was held at JAG Hotel in St. John’s on April 3, offering a chance for Young Adult Cancer Canada’s (YACC) stakeholders to hear more about the plan for our largest annual fundraiser, and getting a sneak peek at two of our secret Shavers!
Geoff Eaton welcomed the lunch hour crowd with a quick look at the plan for this year, and how it will help YACC help young adults across Canada live with, through, and beyond their cancer experiences.
Next, Jennifer Ryan shared how being diagnosed with thyroid cancer a couple of years ago has affected many aspects of her life, from raising her three kids to being a great teacher to being comfortable with her identity.
Jennifer Shaved for the Brave at Newtown Elementary on March 29 with 55 students. She spoke of how inclusive and empowering the event is for students, and their efforts raised an incredible $16,000 in support of programs she has benefitted from, like Survivor Conference and Retreat Yourself Adventure.
Karl Smith, another face of the 2018 campaign, spoke briefly about his relationship with YACC and his Shave for the Brave last year before making the big announcement — David Steele of Ernst & Young, and Paul Antle, president and CEO of Pluto Investments, have stepped up to face the razor at this year’s Brave Brunch to be held on May 27!
Paul closed off the event, speaking of how cancer has affected his family through the years and setting expectations for his fundraising efforts.
We’re honoured to have these remarkable people in our corner this year, and can’t wait to watch it all unfold!
